NSE, BSE trading time change 9 am to 3.30 pm w.e.f. Fri 18 december 2009

The National Stock Exchange has extended the trading timing in equity and equity derivative segments by nearly an hour to 9 am, effective from Friday. The BSE which already extended the trading time for equity and equity derivatives segment by 10 minutes yesterday advanced the time limit on the block deal counter from Friday and BSE modified it today again in continuation with NSE that Equity and Equity Derivatives will be from 9.00 a.m. to 3.30 pm on all business days. There will be no change in timings of any other session in both the segments.

"NSE has advanced the trading timing to 9 am and the extension would be effective from December 18, Friday. The market closing time will remain same at 3.30 pm," an NSE official told.

The trading hours have been extended from the earlier 9.55 am to 3.30 pm.

"With the change in market timings by other exchanges our participants were left with no choice but to extend the timing," NSE Managing Director Ravi Narain told a private TV news channel.

In October market regulator Securities
and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) approved extension of the trading timings by up to two-and-a-half hours from 9 am to 5 pm.

DAILY MARKET OUTLOOK - 2nd Dec 2009

Nifty (5122): the crucial support for the Nifty is at 5100 and resistance at 5166-5250

Sensex (17198) : The crucial support for the Sensex is at 17000 and resistance at 17466

It was a good day across Asian and European markets. Our market too, helped by positive global cues, closed at the day's highs. The fantastic November auto sales numbers and buying in the high beta realty stocks helped market rally higher today. Sensex shut shop at 17198, up 272 points and Nifty at 5122, up 89 points from the previous close. CNX Midcap index was up 1.68% and BSE Smallcap index was up 2.15%. The market breadth was positive with advances at 1058 against declines of 214 on the NSE. Top Nifty gainers included Unitech, Tata Motors and Sun Pharma while losers were HUL, GAIL and BHEL.

We said ‘the market has seen a strong up move but 5100-5150 is still a stiff resistance zone to deal with and I do not rule out a profit booking in these regions’ the market has seen a high at 5130…technically the up move is still intact and there is no sign of weakness witnessed as yet but the crucial level to watch would be 5100 and I would maintain that the market is still considered up as long as 5100 holds, we might see some profit booking in these regions and I watch 5100 very closely as breach of 5100 would be a first sign of weakness.

DAILY MARKET OUTLOOK - 1st Dec 2009

Nifty (5033): The crucial support for the Nifty is at 4967-4937 and resistance at 5078

BSE Sensex (16926): The crucial support for the Sensex is at 16715-16619 and resistance at 17125

It was a good day of trade for our market on this first day of the week which was buoyed by spectacular GDP growth figures. Dubai jitters were being felt in the European markets as evident from weakness on their indices but Asian markets closed with good gains. Our Sensex shut shop at 16926, up 294 points and Nifty at 5032, up 90 points from the previous close. CNX Midcap index was up 1.6% and BSE Smallcap index was up 2.1%. The market breadth was positive with advances at 1055 against declines of 212 on the NSE. Top Nifty gainers included Tata Steel, Bharti Airtel and Tata Motors while losers included Hero Honda, PNB and Maruti Suzuki.

We said ‘but structure wise all is not well as yet and so any up moves that we may see in the market would be a suspect as 5100-5150 is still stiff resistance zone to deal with’ the market has seen a high at 5066. The market has seen a strong up move but 5100-5150 is still a stiff resistance zone to deal with and I do not rule out a profit booking in these regions…
